Helena Kim Ju dedica gran parte de su tiempo a explorar y aprender sobre el arte de los huevos, además de ser una excelente artista reconocida a nivel mundial sobre este arte. Su trabajo se ve reflejado en su sitio web Helena Egg Art & Shadow Box en Nueva Zelandia.
Helena es la directora de la Fundación Egg Art de Nueva Zelandia y realiza entrevistas a los artistas que se dedican a este arte milenario a través de un cuestionario que les hace llegar. A continuación le dejamos la nota realizada a Cristina Serediak.-
1. What is egg art? (In your mind) -¿Qué es el arte de los huevos? (En su mente)-
Los inicios del arte de hacer pysanky se confunden con la prehistoria hace 5000 años. Era el ruego a los dioses para obtener buenas cosechas, buena salud, buen matrimonio, etc. Se hacia sobre huevos de cigüeñas, que regresaban en cada primavera. Lograron a traves de los siglos la perfeccion en esta escritura prealfabetica. Según una creencia popular, el mundo seguira existiendo mientras haya una persona escribiendo una pysanka.
The beginnings of the pysanka art are located 5000 years ago, during the prehistory. It was the prayer to the gods asking for good crops, health or a fine marriage, for instances. It was originally made on stork eggs, birds that kept coming each year, in spring. There was a popular belive that as long as there was someone writing a pysanka, the world would continue existing.
Писанка існує тому 5000 років в приісторії. Це була молитва про добру жниву, здоровля або добре подружжа. Спочатку уживали яйця лелеків які прилітали на весну. Є повірення, що доки буде хтось писати писанку світ буде існувати.
2. Introduce yourself. - Preséntate.
Me llamo Cristina Serediak. Estoy casada con Roberto Forte. Ambos somos medicos, yo pediatra y el cirujano. Tengo 2 hijos y una hija y 2 nietas y otra en camino pronto. Vivo en un pueblo pequeño cerca del rio a 1000 km de Buenos Aires, capital de Argentina, para el sur en la zona llamada Patagonia. Naci en 1946 en Austria y a los 2 años llegamos a Argentina.
My name is Christine Serediak. I´m married to Roberto Forte. We are both medical doctors. My speciality is pediatrics. We have 2 sons and one daughter, 2 grand daughters and one more coming soon. I live in a small town near a river, 1000 km from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentine. I was born in 1946 in Austria and when I was 2 years old, we arrived in Argentine.
Називаюся Христина Середяк. Мій чоловік Роберто Форте. Оба лікарі. Маю 3 дітей та 2 онучки, а третя скоро. Живу в маленькім місткчку 1000 км від столиці Аргентини. Народжена 1946.
3. How did you know egg art? ¿Cómo supiste del arte de los huevos?
Al ser mis padres ucranianos en casa se hablaba siempre ese idioma y asi fui aprendiendo su cultura, historia y tradiciones. Al cumplir 2 años llegamos a la Argentina y fui a los colegios argentinos durante la semana y a los colegios ucranianos los domingos. Siempre conoci el arte de las pysanky en Pascua. Pero hace unos 20 años comencé a indagar en este arte en forma mas profesional. Comence mi camino de profesora con alumnos, di conferencias, seminarios y talleres. En el año 2009 escribi mi libro “La Magia de las Pysanky”, el primer libro en idioma español que se puede ver en el Museo de las Pysanky en Kolomyia, Ucrania. Ademas soy miembro de la Asociacion Nacional de Artesanos de Ucrania.
At home, being my parents ukranian, we spoke permanently ukranian language, so I learnt the culture, history and traditions of that country. I went to regular argentinean school during week days and on Sundays to the Ukranian school where I learned about ancient pysanky. Twenty years ago I began to work more profesionally with pysanky. I was invited to give lectures, seminars and began also to teach. 2009 was the year I published muy book “The magic of Pysanky”, the first book about this art in Spanish language. You can find it in the Ukranian Museum of Pysanky in Kolomyia, Ucraine. I´m also member of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine.
Моя родина з України тому все навчали батьки а потім українська школа про історію, традиції і мову. Також ходила до аргентинської школи. Тому десь 20 років почала серіозно вивчати писанки. Навіть написала першу книжку про писанки в еспанській мові «Чар писанок»яку можна знайти в Музеї Писанок в Коломиї. Член Національної Спілки Майстрів Народного Мистецтва України.
4. What is the hardest part in creating an egg art? - ¿Cuál es la parte más difícil en la creación de este arte?
Creo que la parte mas dificil es conseguir los materiales que necesitamos para plasma sobre la cascara del huevo la idea que tenemos en mente. A veces no es el color que deseamos, a veces no es la linea adecuada, a veces no es el huevo correcto, etc. Recuerden que en la pysanka tradicinal todos los motivos son escritura prealfabetica, por eso es importante su mensaje.
I think the most difficult part of Pysanky creating process is to gather the materials needed to get the job done, and put- on the eggshell- the idea you have in your mind. Remember that you write a message using designs instead of characters on traditional pysanky. The other person must know the meanings of those to read it.
Найтаще це знайти відповідні матеріали до роботи шоб написати на яйці це що роздумали. Писанку треба вміти прочитати та написати.
5. Which part is your strong part? (pysanky or carved egg, etc.) - ¿Cuál es su parte fuerte? (pysanky o huevos tallados, etc)
Me especializo en pysanky tradicionales que tienen 5000 años de antigüedad y que son las únicas que son escritas con simbología prealfabetica.
My specialization is Traditional Pysanky, an art that is present since as long as 5000 years in Ukraine. They are unique, because they are meant to carry a message using pre alphabetic designs. The teaching aims to show other peoples how to read it.
Я люблю традиційні писанки бо їх можна читати. Їх історія понад 5000 років на Україні.
6. Where do you get your inspirations ? - ¿De dónde sacas tu inspiración?
La inspiracion proviene para las pysanky tradicionales del conocimiento del alma de las personas a quien va dirigido el mensaje.
My inspiration comes from the knowledge of the soul of the people to whom the pysanka will be given! Remember you write a traditional pysanka (not paint).
Щоб написати традицийну писанку треба знати душу людини!
7. What is your favorite type of egg? - ¿Cuál es tu tipo favorito de huevo?
Me gusta la tecnica del batik sobre huevos de Ganso. Tambien uso mucho el de gallina. El de avestruz es muy espectacular.
My favourite type is the batik-technique on eggshells from gooses. I also use chicken, and sometimes ostrich eggs.
Я уживаю гусячі яйця, курячі та менше струся.
8. Average time for each art work? - Tiempo promedio para cada obra de arte?
Depende del diseño y del tamaño, aproximadamente 10 horas.
Depends of egg size and complexity of the design, average time 10 hours.
Працюю десь 10 годин залежно від яйця та його трудність.
9. How many Egg Artists in your country (approximately)? - ¿Cuántos artistas hay en su país sobre este arte (aproximadamente) ?
En Argentina hay 3, incluyéndome. En Pascua todos escriben pysanky pues hay que adornar el canasto Pascual para ser bendecido. Muchos enseñan en la colectividad. En forma activa, enseñando por el país a gente no ucraniana creo que soy la única.
I think there are 3 in Argentine, including me. I´m the only active at the moment, teaching all around the country to not ukranian people. I think that every ukranian person knows how to write a pysanka because we use them in the basket we take to the church to be blessed in Easter.
Думаю що нас є 3. Я одинока вчу не українців та поширюю це знання. Всі українці вміють писати писанку бо треба прикрасити кошик до церкви.
10. Is there a country you want to go to? Why? - ¿Hay un país al que quieras ir? ¿Por qué?
Yo siempre quiero ir a Ucrania (ya fui 3 veces), pues es la patria de mis padres y mia. Es el lugar donde nació la pysanka hace 5000 años y donde se siguen hacienda hasta ahora sin interrupción. Es donde esta el Museo de la Pysanka en la ciudad de Kolomyia con 15000 pysanky en exhibición permanente. Ninguna es igual a otra, tal es la riqueza de este arte. En ese museo tengo varias pysanky. También quisiera viajar a países donde no se conozca este arte. En el 2009 fui invitada por el gobierno de Dubai para una exhibición.
I always want to go to Ukraine, (I was there three times) because I feel that, being the homeland of my parents, is also mine. Also it is the place where pysanky are made by tradition from 5000 years without interruption. There is a Museum of Pysanka in the Kolomyia City dedicated to pysanky, 15000 in exhibition. I have there some pysanky of my own. But I would like to travel to countries where this art is not known. During 2009 I was invited to Dubai by the government to an egg exhibition.
Я все хочу поїхати на Україну, земля батьків та моя. Там народилися писанки тому 5000 років назад. Там Музей Писанки в Коломиї де є 15000 писанок. Там маю кілька своїх. Також хотіла поїхати до країн що не знають про писанки. 2009 поїхала до Дубаю на показ писанок.
11. What is your dream through egg art? - ¿Cuál es su sueño a través de este arte?
Mi sueño es mostrar y enseñar este arte en todos los lugares del mundo que no lo conocen y compartir su magia. Se necesita una vela, un huevo entero, cera de abejas y una “kistka” (elemento de escritura).
My dream is to show and teach this art everywhere around the world where pysanky are not known, and show it´s magic. You only need a candle, beeswax, a full egg and a “kistka”( the element to write).
Хочу показати та навчити про писанки по всьому світі та чому вони чарівні.
12. Are there any traits and habits you developed through egg art? - ¿Existen rasgos y hábitos que desarrolló a través del arte del huevo?
Tenes que tener mucha paciencia, buena vista y hacer muchísimas pysanky.
You can only be proficient if you write many pysanky with much pacience.
Треба мати час, не спішити та робити багато писанок.

La pysanka es la oración primitiva de los antepasados de Ucrania (Orysia Tracz).
The pysanka is the primitive prayer of ancient people of Ukraine.
Писанка це молитва наших предків.
14. Any messages? - ¿Algún mensaje?
Cuando mires una pysanka trata de leer su significado, pues cada símbolo o cada color te dan un mensaje. Trate de rendir homenaje a los millones de artesanos que mantuvieron viva esta tradición a través de los años.
When you look a pysanka, try to read it´s message, because each symbol and each color have a meaning. Try to think of the millions art workers that kept alive this art through history.
